  • Equinox expects to open its first Nashville location in 2026.
  • The luxury gym will occupy 37,000 square feet in Paseo South Gulch.
  • Equinox was founded in New York in 1991 and now has more than 110 locations globally.

A luxury New York-based fitness club revealed new details surrounding its Gulch debut.

Equinox is taking over three floors in SomeraRoad’s Paseo South Gulch development, marking the first Nashville location of the popular gym.

The new location of the high-end fitness and wellness brand will span nearly 37,000 square feet in the historic Voorhees Building at 700 Eighth Ave. S.

“We are excited to open our first Equinox location in Tennessee and join the community of Nashville,” said Jeff Weinhaus, president and chief development officer at Equinox, in a release. “The club’s unique design and unparalleled services will meet the ongoing demand for luxury lifestyle experiences.”

It will offer strength and cardio floors, signature group fitness classes, personal training, a contrast therapy suite, designated member lounge, spa treatments and more.

Equinox South Gulch is expected to open in June or July 2026, according to SomeraRoad CEO Ian Ross.

“What's been fascinating to me is Equinox has realized there's a white space here in Nashville. This is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. There's a lot of elements of Nashville that are really cutting edge and contemporary. … It's the opposite of a sleepy town,” Ross told the Business Journal. “This is a city that deserves luxury fitness product and, frankly, the current offerings with regards to fitness in Nashville are pretty underwhelming.”

Equinox

Equinox was founded in New York in 1991 and now has more than 110 locations globally.

SomeraRoad, which is co-headquartered in New York and Nashville, brought Equinox executives to Nashville a few years ago, and they “fell in love with Nashville,” according to Ross.

Looking at Equinox’s global portfolio, the brand is often drawn to “special, iconic buildings,” Ross said. The brand was looking for an adaptive reuse opportunity, and SomeraRoad was willing to adjust some tenants to make it happen in the historic building.

“If you can have Equinox at the center of your project, they are really a special use that's unmatched across the city. They provide a really collaborative complement to the other tenants and add to the ecosystem that we've built,” Ross said. “There were some changes we had to make to some tenancy to make them fit in the box that we had, but it was certainly well worth it, and we were happy to accommodate.”

SomeraRoad, which was founded in New York and has since opened a second headquarters in Music City, started its Paseo South Gulch development with plans for two towers and the revitalization of two historical properties in the Gulch: the antique mall and the Voorhees Building. Now, its first local project is estimated to cost more than $1 billion and has grown in scale to four towers.

Earlier this year, luxury hotel and condo brand Pendry announced it was opening its first Nashville location in a 30-story tower in the development. A groundbreaking ceremony for Pendry Nashville and Pendry Residences Nashville will be held the evening of July 16, and the development is expected to open in 2027.

The Gulch development has drawn in tenants like Two Hands, Maiz de la vida, Carter Vintage Guitars, The Patterson House, The Catbird Seat and more. Equinox is the latest to the mix, and Ross says more tenant announcements are in the works.

“Equinox adds to this collection of high-quality luxury lifestyle offerings that are for Nashvillians and creating this really great sense of place. … This isn't 12South, Broadway where it's a little Nashvegas and a little touristy,” Ross said. “This is the place that's by a Nashville company for people in Nashville, that creates this really special home and collection of amenities within that home. Equinox perfectly reflects that vision.”
